Mystery Shopping

See your business through your customers’ eyes.
Your customers rarely tell you everything. Surveys show what people say they think, but mystery shopping shows what actually happens at the moment of truth: how the customer is greeted, how well the question is answered, how long the wait is, and how a problem is handled. ConsulRain’s trained, anonymous evaluators experience your service exactly as a real customer would, and turn what they see into clear scores, evidence and practical improvements.
Request a ProposalWhat is mystery shopping?
Mystery shopping is a structured way of measuring service quality and standards compliance. A trained evaluator visits, calls or goes online as an ordinary customer, follows an agreed scenario, and records the experience against a detailed scorecard. Because staff do not know who is evaluating them, the results show everyday service as it really is, not as it is on a day when management is watching.
It answers questions that internal reports cannot:
- Are our service standards applied in every branch?
- Do staff know our products?
- Are we losing sales at the counter or on the phone?
- Are hygiene and safety rules followed when no one is checking?

Our scoring approach
Weighted scorecard
Each item is weighted by its importance to your customers and your business.
Critical items
Non-negotiable standards, such as food safety or regulatory requirements, are flagged separately.
Objective criteria
Items are written as observable facts (“greeted within 30 seconds”) rather than opinions, to keep scoring fair and consistent.
Evidence
Timings, written observations and, where lawful and agreed with you, receipts or photographs support every score.
Quality control
Every evaluation is reviewed by our team before it is included in the report.
Trend tracking
Results are tracked over time when the programme is repeated.
The added value for your business
Mystery shopping is only worth doing if it leads to better results. This is what our clients gain:
An objective picture
Independent, consistent evaluation free from internal bias, showing the real customer experience.
Consistency across locations
The same standards measured the same way in every branch, so you can see where service is strong and where it slips.
Findings that lead to action
We connect the gaps found to targeted training, coaching or process improvement, and we re-measure to show the progress.
Motivated, recognised teams
Scores highlight what staff do well so you can reward it, and give a fair, evidence-based basis for coaching rather than opinion.
Protected revenue and reputation
Spot service failures, lost sales opportunities and complaints in the making before they reach your customers’ reviews.
Compliance and risk assurance
Check that hygiene, safety and procedural standards are applied every day, not only on inspection days.
Market insight
Benchmark your service against competitors and learn what sets the best apart.
Measurable improvement
Clear KPIs and trends give management a reliable way to track service quality and report on it.
The ConsulRain improvement cycle
What makes our mystery shopping different is what happens after the report. Because we are a training and consulting firm, we can close the loop:
Measure
Mystery shopping shows how service is delivered today.
Analyse
Findings feed into a gap analysis that separates skill gaps from process or management issues.
Improve
Targeted training, coaching and process changes address the root causes.
Re-measure
A follow-up round confirms the improvement and keeps standards high.

Frequently asked questions
No. Management agrees the programme, but staff do not know who the evaluators are or when visits happen. That is what makes the results reliable.
It depends on the number of locations and your objectives. Many clients start with a baseline round and then repeat evaluations at regular intervals to track improvement. We will recommend a plan in our proposal.
Yes. Scenarios and scorecards are always designed with you and approved before any evaluation takes place.
Only where it is lawful and has been agreed with you in advance. In most cases, written observations, timings and receipts provide sufficient evidence.
The evaluation is cancelled and repeated with a different evaluator.
Yes, and we recommend it. Findings feed directly into our pre-training gap analysis and training programmes, and a follow-up evaluation shows the effect of the training on actual service.
No. The aim is improvement and recognition. How the results are shared with employees is agreed with you beforehand.
